It’s 1959. Boston’s Colonial Theatre is host to the opening night performance of a new musical slated for the bright lights of Broadway. When the hapless leading lady mysteriously dies on stage the entire cast & crew are suspects. Enter local detective Lieutenant Frank Cioffi who is desperate to conduct a thorough investigation, however, the lure of the theatre proves irresistible and after an unexpected romance blossoms for the stage-struck detective he finds himself just as much drawn to making the show a hit as he is to solving the murder…or murders.
The show is written by the legendary musical writing duo Kander & Ebb, most famous for penning Chicago, Cabaret, Kiss of the Spider Woman, Steel Pier, Fosse, The Scottsboro Boys and many more. The show ran on Broadway starring David Hyde Pierce who picked up a Tony Award for “Best Actor”, whilst the show was nominated for eight Tony Awards including “Best Musical”.
